Dear All,
10 years ago, on the 9th of July, Iranian students mobilized to demand an end to oppression. Thousands of students, protesting the regime’s shutdown of a popular reformist newspaper, were attacked, beaten and arrested in a bloody confrontation. That day, infamously known by its date in the Persian calendar-the “18 of Tir”- has become a symbol of Iranian movement for freedom.
We obtained a last-minute permit on July 8th, by the police of the 1st district of the city of Chicago, to be part of the “Global Protest in commemoration of “18th of Tir” 1999 (July 9th)”. A peaceful protest will take place in front of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (112 S. Michigan Ave), from 6-7 pm, prior to the discussion panel (Teach-in Seminar). The “green scroll project” will also be initiated at this event.
Please join us in standing with the people of Iran as they fight for their human rights.
